QUEENSBURY, N.Y. -- Several explosive devices were found in nearly every room of the Queensbury home of Michael Young, according to the Warren County Sheriff.

When deputies entered the Burke Road apartment late Sunday, they were expecting a minor domestic dispute between a woman and Young, the apartment’s main tenant. What they found was unexpected.

“We had not seen this many explosives in one place in a long time," said Sheriff Nathan "Bud" York, R-Warren County.

Virtually every room of the apartment had either an explosive or explosive device inside, York said, prompting authorities to evacuate the neighboring eight units at the Montcalm Apartments.

One woman, who said she was a neighbor of Young’s for several years, asked to keep her name private but said the 54-year-old Young mostly kept to himself.

York says Young previously worked for a demolition company but was not licensed to own blasting caps, dynamite or any explosives. Many of the items were at least 40 years old and potentially unstable.

"I don’t want to be too overdramatic but this could have been devastating," Young said.

While they do not believe Young intended to cause any harm, authorities on local, state and federal levels are now investigating how and why Young had these items in the first place.

After pleading not guilty to one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, Young was taken to the Warren County Jail, where bail was set at $5,000. York says it’s likely he will face additional charges, including some at the federal level. He’s due back in court December 6.
