ALBANY, N.Y. -- It's another sign of spring in the Capital Region as the USS Slater opens for the 2018 season Wednesday.

The USS Slater is the last of its kind originally built to take on Nazi U-boats and escort convoys across the Atlantic Ocean, during World War II.

It’s all owned and operated by the non-profit organization, destroyer escort historical museum. Executive director Tim Rizzuto says there’s a reason tourists keep on coming back

“We've gotten the reputation of being one of the most authentically restored ships in the country. And we have really tried to get every detail of the ship the way it was during WWII. And that makes it really special,” he said.

Admission for the ship is $9 for adults and $7 for children.  The ship and museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. through November.
