Over 60 kids from the Troy Boys & Girls Club were treated to an eye-opening experience at the movies.

Mentors with Team Hero, a Collar City organization that works with young people, took them to see "The Hate U Give.”

The movie tells the story of the shooting by a police officer of an unarmed black teenager.

The victim's friend Starr — the protagonist — is then left to grapple with the tragic aftermath.

Many of the teens who went say it left them emotional, and reflective about how they interact with police in their own community.

"All the issues they were talking about are issues that these young people face every day. So the group that we deal with, which is a youth development program that Team Hero founded, we deal with kids aged 11-19. So everything that the young lady Starr was going through in the movie, are things that these young people face every day."

Ford added that Team Hero is saving money to buy copies of the book the movie is based on -- hoping to provide each young person their own copy, to hold more guided and open discussions.
