Q: The surface on the east and west bound lane of the New York State Thruway between Syracuse's Exit 39 and Weedsport's Exit 41 is extremely rough, especially in a truck such as a Chevy Silverado.  I see they are grinding down the surface.  This section of the thruway is also concrete versus asphalt. Why is the road so rough here and why did they hoose concrete for this secrion?

A: The Thruway Authority says they are currently in the middle of an $11.5 million concrete restoration project on the approximately 15-mile stretch east of exit 39 and west of exit 40 to address and improve the ride-ability of the driving surface. When complete, drivers will experience a smoother ride, especially in large trucks as your viewer explained. Concrete was the chosen material because of its durability and the conditions the area which include significant truck traffic and high water table.

They didn't really say when the work will be completed, they say they are in the "middle" of the project. I don't know if that means half way through, or just that it is happening now. It will break during the winter months.

Be safe. Wishing you miles of smiles.
