ONEIDA CASTLE, N.Y. -- It's a cold case that's frustrated troopers for more than 44 years.

Brown-eyed brunette Martha Louise Allen went missing in July 1973. She had been living with her grandparents on Ninth Street in Oneida Castle.

Allen was last seen on the morning of July 25, 1973 by her grandfather as he left the house.

"The next day, she was reported missing by her grandfather. No sign of any struggle or any altercation with anybody; there was not an argument," said Jack Keller of the New York State Police Troop D.

Allen's body was found a few weeks later.

"A decomposed body was discovered by a boater on Black Creek near Verona State Park, and eventually the medical examiner's office was able to determine that the remains [were] Martha's," Keller said.

The case was then treated as a homicide. Some people were looked at by police, but no one was directly connected to Allen's death.

Anyone with information on Allen's death is asked to call State Police at (315) 366-6000.
