SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Dick's Sporting Goods policy change on guns within their stores has some questioning if the move is legal.

An expert in constitutional law says the decision to not sell firearms to people under the age of 21 does not violate any constitutional rights.

Le Moyne College professor Jonathan Parent says Dick's Sporting Goods is a private company, so those in charge can change policies as they see fit.

"Private companies are going to have a lot more leeway than the government does in terms of what sort of rights they can limit or whatever since they're not elected and they're not covered by the constitution frankly. You see the same thing with private schools versus public schools as well. They are quite a bit more constrained than private schools are simply because they're not funded by the government,” Parent said.

Parent says it will be interesting to see how long the change will last.
