SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Nationals are back at the Fairgrounds.

The gates opened shortly after 5:30 a.m. Friday, and sitting there waiting was a line hundreds-deep.

Organizers say some were lined up early to try to get coveted spots around the fairgrounds.

This year more than 8,000 cars have registered to take part, and more than 80,000 people are expected to attend.

It's an event that has certainly grown over the years, and that's great for the community.

"This is something that in 19 years, has become a tradition here in Syracuse.  We're just so pleased that from the humble beginnings that we've been able to grow the show.  Not just for us, but mostly for the community and everything it does for the community,” Syracuse Nationals’ Bob McLean.

It's estimated that the Nationals brings in $13.5 million to the local economy over the week that the cars are in town.

Over their two-decade run, the Nationals have also donated more than $1.3 million back to charity.
