New York State United Teachers endorsed Dana Balter for the 24th Congressional District.

She's hoping to unseat incumbent republican John Katko.

Balter is an educator herself, and says she respects others in her position.

The union says Balter is a strong advocate for public schools and all children, especially those with disabilities.

One teacher says Balter's support is crucial in creating better education for future generations.

"Dana understands that giving money away to charter schools is not the right approach," said Donna Oppedisano, a Jamesville-Dewitt high school teacher. "Rather fully funding public education is the approach that's going to benefit our country in the long run."

Balter says she'll be hosting numerous town halls.

The first will be in Skaneateles Town Hall on Saturday at 11 a.m.
