When there is traffic coming from every direction, driving can feel like a game of Russian Roulette.

"It's really a dangerous intersection, I think," said Bridgeport Tenant Joseph Mudge.

"I think in this spot, a roundabout would work. I really do," said Mudge.

"I'm very excited about things that make our community better and safer," said Cicero Town Supervisor Mark Venesky.

Come Monday, crews will work to construct the first mini roundabout in Onondaga County. Bridgeport being the proud home to the circular intersection where Route 298 meets Route 31.

No property is going to have to be disturbed. There will be no left-turn signs put in at the Speedway and the Sunoco to discourage people from making left turns against traffic," said Venesky.

By design, the mini roundabout fits in the existing roadway meaning no nearby properties or businesses will be affected.

"I believe there has been an increase in traffic so we'd like to be proactive instead of reactive to a potentially dangerous traffic situation," said Venesky.

Following the construction of Pointe Place Casino, leaders sought a solution for the intersection, first entertaining the idea of a three-way traffic light. But research from the Department of Transportation convinced lawmakers otherwise.

"Their research shows that it doesn't really make an intersection safer especially when you have people making right-hand turns," said Venesky.

With its design, the mini roundabout should be constructed quickly.

"I'm being told they're going to be done by state fair week-- it's going to go fast," said Venesky.

The news has some drivers feeling more secure, and less like their fate will be left to chance.

"I think so, I think you'll be safer. I think it'll be safer," said Mudge.
