Oneida Shores Beach is now  open once again to swimming after being closed due to high levels of E. coli, according to the Onondaga County Department of Health.

The DOH said last week the beach was closed until bacteria levels returned to acceptable levels. The rest of the park has remained open.

Most varieties of E. coli are harmless or cause brief diarrhea. While only some types of bacteria will cause gastrointestinal illness, the presence of E. coli bacteria is an indicator of increased general bacterial action in the water.
