Last June, Governor Cuomo passed an executive order stating any police agency that wants state funding must first have a coherent reform plan in place.

This week and next, the community in Onondaga County gets to be a part of that plan's creation.

People are invited to speak at one of seven sessions. Once complete, all of the feedback will be sent to the Syracuse Common Council, and eventually used to form a state recommendation.

We spoke with one of moderators running these forums, who says this opportunity has been a long time coming.

"If you've ever wanted to be a part of history, and a historical change within your city, to say, 'I had a part of that, my voice, my comments and my experience was a part of change in Syracuse,' this is your opportunity to do it. Don't let it go by and then say, 'Well I... this.' Take advantage of it," said

The meetings are open to everyone in Onondaga County. They are divided up by neighborhood and area, rather than topic, to allow for a more open conversation. Everyone who speaks will be held to four minutes, but written submissions will also be accepted and added to the document.

Forums take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The next one is tonight for neighbors on Syracuse's northside.
