FAITH, N.C. -- As the country mourns the loss of former first lady Barbara Bush, one Rowan County town is remembering her visit.

In 1992, the town of Faith hosted the then President George H.W. Bush and Mrs. Bush for their annual Fourth of July Celebration.

Tim Williams was mayor pro tem at the time, and was given the task of entertaining the first lady, a feat he said was simple since she was so easy going and friendly.

"We talked about Faith and we talked about barbecue and Cheerwine,” Williams says. “She had never had a Cheerwine before and so it was really good to be able to let her have something that came from our area, came from Salisbury.”

Williams says he is positive her legacy will never be forgotten.

Funeral services for Barbara Bush will be held Saturday in Texas.
