DURHAM, N.C. -- Detective Ron Guardino has seen many cases with the Durham Police Department, but a recent one tugged at his heart.
- A Durham Officer is receiving praise after donating a wheelchair to an elderly woman.
- Christine Burke's wheelchair was stolen from outside her house in May.
- Officer Ron Guardino replaced the chair with one he happened to already have.
On May 13, Guardino was responding to a report of a stolen wheelchair where he met 76-year-old Christine Burke.
Burke is unable to walk and required the wheelchair to complete basic daily activities.
The wheelchair was stolen from outside her house.
Guardino's 28-year-old son, who lives with cerebral palsy, had just bought a new wheelchair and no longer had use for his old one, so Guardino donated it to Burke.
Thanks to Guardino, Burke had a new wheelchair two weeks after hers was stolen. Had she waited for insurance to replace it, it could've taken up to a year.
Burke is thankful to Guardino for his generosity.
"Appreciate him, I do," said Burke.
