BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Change is coming to Burlington's Huffman Mill corridor, in the form of new retail stores.

  • Huffman Mill Commons is getting new stores.
  • Burlington is in talks to move into the retail space next to Academy Sports.
  • A Chipotle and Total Nutrition will open next year.

Huffman Mill Commons is currently anchored by Academy Sports, and others are slated to open soon.

Slowly but surely, big box stores and other small retailers are taking over empty store fronts in this corridor.

Academy Sports has been open for more than six months, and as of now, Chipotle and Total Nutrition are slated to move into two other smaller retail spaces.

Officials say new retail in this area isn't just a win for the city of Burlington, but it also has a lot of positive effects on the thousands of people who live in this area and continue to move here.

It will make it easier for residents to shop and spend their dollars right here in their own community, as well as take advantage of new jobs.

Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory is currently negotiating a lease to move into the larger retail space next to Academy Sports.

Chipotle and Total Nutrition are set to open next year.
