LANCASTER, S.C. -- Two families in Lancaster County are grieving a young couple shot and killed by police in Arkansas.

  • Police say Megan Rivera and De'Angelo Brown refused to pull over during a traffic stop Wednesday night.
  • They then rammed into police cars and ran over an officer's legs. That's when officers shot at the car and killed both inside.
  • Six officers are now off duty while the investigation into the shooting continues.

Police say Megan Rivera and De'Angelo Brown refused to pull over during a traffic stop Wednesday night.

They then rammed into police cars and ran over an officer's legs. That's when officers shot at the car and killed both inside.

Family members say Rivera lost her father to an overdose when she was 6 years old and turned to drugs herself. Now they say they'll fight to end the cycle.

"Our family has lost too many already and we’re determined to reverse that no matter what," said Kevin Rivera, the victim's brother.

Six officers are now off duty while the investigation into the shooting continues.
