MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. -- A jail is not a place you expect to find a career fair but it happened Monday at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.

  • The fair is for inmates who will be free within the next 90 days.
  • Around a dozen employers and around 35 inmates were in attendance.
  • Inmates received resume help, were given clothes to wear and even got a haircut for the career fair.

“If we don't give these young men and young women a job, they're going to go out and support their family anyway possible, and some of that leads to a life of crime. We didn't want that again,” said (D) Mecklenburg County Sheriff Gary McFadden.

McFadden said he wants to hold more of the job fairs this year.
