CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Charlotte Fire Department baseball teams play a game against each other each year.

It's called the Chief's Cup, and this year the game is being dedicated to first responders and those who lost their lives in the September 11 attack.

The CMPD vs CFD annual baseball game will be a tribute to first responders and the lives lost on September 11, 2001  

Frank Demasi, a former NYPD officer who was at the Twin Towers on 9/11, helped organize the Chief's Cup 

The Chief's Cup is at 6 p.m. on September 11, 2021 at Truist Field in Charlotte 

Frank Demasi helped organize the Chief's Cup this year at Truist field in Charlotte.

“It was pretty incredible because guys were seeing me for the first time since the collapse, and I was seeing other guys for the first time, and it was like ‘Oh my God you made it!’ We’re hugging, were kissing, it was pretty crazy,” Demasi said.

Fourteen members of Demasi's unit didn't make it out of the Twin Towers.

“It was tough for a while to go through that, but, you know, you learn to live. You learn to live for them,” Demasi said.

Demasi will throw out the first pitch at the Chief's Cup at 6 p.m. on September 11, 2021 at Truist Field in Charlotte.
