A low pressure system will work northward along the North Carolina coast Thursday, bringing us the threat for heavy rain and severe storms. This could lead to flooding in some areas. Behind that, high pressure building in Friday will kick off a nice stretch of dry weather.

Heavy rain will persist throughout the morning and early afternoon hours as the aforementioned low pressure system moves northward. A few severe storms may be possible yet again along the coast where some may be capable of producing damaging winds or an isolated tornado.

The bulk of the heavy rain will be to the north and east of even the northern coast by late Thursday afternoon. Behind that, winds will turn to the west and dry air will clear skies out overnight. Sunshine finally makes a nice (and long) comeback starting Friday and continuing into the weekend. In fact, for the next several days, the forecast has very little in terms of rain chances all the way into Thanksgiving! Should be great weather for those planning to hit the roads next week for holiday travel!
