SAN DIEGO — Dana Toons is one of those people who firmly believes "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie.

"It's one of my favorite Christmas movies," he laughed.

Toons is a professional artist, and he uses Christmas classics to bring his holiday decorating to life.

"I'm an artist. Why spend money on like Walmart blow up stuff?" Toons said. "I can create my own stuff back here and make it unique, custom and throw it out in the front lawn for people to walk by and enjoy."

He's made a name for himself as the neighborhood artist who creates crazy, life-sized cutouts for everyone to enjoy.

"The 'Elf' one and then, of course, my favorite Christmas movie is 'Die Hard,'" Toons said. "This is like priceless because it's all coming from my head."

This year's display is complete with a Charlie Brown Christmas tree and John McClane blood spatter, along with "Home Alone" and "Elf" characters.

"They're just cool because they're like big colorful cartoons in the front lawn," he said. "And it's not just regular blow-up stuff, which I appreciate."

His neighbors appreciate it too, and love watching his creations go up.

"It's fantastic. Better than I expected," his next-door neighbor Mika LeBlanc said. "This guy's a creative genius."

Toons said he loves when people hire him to create holiday cutouts for their homes and businesses instead of buying mass-produced decorations.

He's already planning what he'll be creating next year.

"It's unique. It's hand-painted," Toons said. "It's pretty cool."
