LOS ANGELES (CNS) — "A Quiet Place Part II" starring Emily Blunt and directed by her husband John Krasinski scared its way to the top of the North American box office this Memorial Day weekend by grossing $48.385 million, according to industry estimates out Sunday.
Paramount's horror flick beat out Disney's "Cruella," which stars Emma Stone and earned $21.3 million in theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported. The movie is also available on Disney+.
"Spiral" — the latest edition to the "Saw" franchise — was third at the box office with another $2.275 million generated Friday through Sunday, beating out the Jason Statham-starring action film "Wrath of Man," which earned another $2.13 million in theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were "Raya and The Last Dragon" ($1.995 million), "Godzilla vs. Kong" ($852,000), "Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train" ($790,000), "Dream Horse" ($652,373), "Those Who Wish Me Dead" ($595,000) and "Mortal Kombat" ($260,000).
Internationally, "F9" is the No. 1 movie for the second week in a row. The latest installment in the long-running "Fast & Furious" franchise stars Vin Diesel, John Cena and Michelle Rodriguez and is scheduled to open in the United States on June 25.
