BOWLING GREEN, Ky. Western Kentucky University in Glasgow announced the launch of its Early College program. It allows 100 juniors and seniors in seven counties in south central Kentucky to earn up to thirty hours of college credit while fulfilling high school requirements.

What You Need To Know

  • The program allows students to earn up to 30 hours in college credit.

  •  The WKU in Glasgow Early College Program is available to students in South Central 7 counties.

  • Students choose one of five professional career tracks.

“In those areas, a lot of the students are definitely ready for the challenge of a college education. They may think it’s out of reach for them because of cost or because of distance,” Derrick Strode, Director of Regional Campuses, said.

Students will learn side-by-side with WKU students in the morning and will return to their high school in the afternoon. Participants will also be able to choose one of five professional career tracks.

“For us, this is a program that is designed to feed the workforce needs of those communities and to help those communities see college as part of their future,” Strode said.

Students will have the ability to visit the main campus. They’ll also be able to access a professional within their chosen career track. As a result, the program is expected to increase rural communities access to higher education.

To quality, eligible applicants must have a 3.5 GPA and be current students at participating high schools. More information about the program and multiple parent night events can be found here
