Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday shrugged off the claim made by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg that he got Senate Republicans to support same-sex marriage legalization.

Bloomberg took credit for the vote in the Tuesday evening debate of the Democratic presidential candidates.

The comment highlighted Bloomberg's own financial support for Republicans in the state Senate, even as Cuomo's staff rolled their eyes on social media for taking credit.

"First, I didn't know New York City passed a law that allowed marriage equalit," Cuomo said with a smile. "But in a debate a lot of people say a lot of things, right?"

Pressed to respond further, Cuomo declined to take any bait.

"I think in a debate a lot of people say a lot of things," he said.

Cuomo in 2011 successfully pushed for the marriage vote in the state Senate, controlled by Republicans at the time, as well as lobbied lawmakers from both parties to support the measure.
