MELBOURNE, Fla. — Officials in Brevard County are trying to find out who dumped several guinea pigs on the side of a dead-end road over the weekend.

  • Seven guinea pigs found abandoned in cages
  • Guinea pigs being cared for at Last Chance Sanctuary
  • They will eventually be up for adoption

Seven of the animals were found near their cages by a fence on Sarno Extension in Melbourne.

Whomever left them there drove right by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Animal Services building a couple of hundred yards away.

Six of the guinea pigs were found alive, but one was missing.

The guinea pigs are being cared for at Last Chance Sanctuary in Melbourne. One of them is nursing and another is pregnant.

Eventually the guinea pigs will be up for adoption.

BCSO Pet Posse is offering a $500 reward in helping find the person accused of dumping the animals on the side of the road.
