MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — If you are smelling or seeing smoke in north Brevard County, it's part of a large prescribed burn in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge -- the second happening this weekend.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a 1,732-acre burn south of Kennedy Space Center. A huge cloud of smoke may be seen from miles around.

It's the second burn in as many days. A 2,200-acre prescribed burn was conducted in the refuge Saturday. The smoke on that fire headed northeast.
