OVIEDO, Fla. – Two Oviedo High School football players complained they were recently inappropriately touched on their buttocks while clothed in what has been described as locker room “horseplay” and possible hazing.

The Seminole-Brevard State Attorney’s Office is reviewing the results of a police investigation to determine what, if any, charges should be filed, Oviedo Police Lt. Travis Cockcroft confirmed Thursday.

Seminole County Schools Superintendent Walt Griffin announced a school-district investigation Thursday because similar allegations were raised last year.

Michael Lawrence, a school district spokesman, said three students will be disciplined in the most recent case. Details, however, have not been released by any agency.

Cockcroft said the reported inappropriate touching happened in a September-to-October timeframe, allegedly occurring more than once, but how many times are unknown. He said two players felt they were touched inappropriately.

The parent of one of the players wanted to press charges.

Lawrence said the district has not reviewed the most recent findings from police.

However, “based on the reports and allegations regarding similar issues last year, the Superintendent has asked that we open a district investigation into the matter,” Lawrence told Spectrum News 13.

Cockcroft called it “horseplay.”

Lawrence said the district is “aware of the allegations and ongoing investigation regarding members of the Oviedo High School football team.

"Three students will be receiving school discipline in accordance with our SCPS student code of conduct. The school district does not tolerate hazing of any kind and will look into the matter further once the investigation is complete to determine if additional action is warranted.”

Oviedo police are interviewing members of the football team to get more information.

No other students have come forward, police said.
