Emergency responders say a substation fire in Leesburg knocked out power to large sections of the city Tuesday.

In a post on the Leesburg Fire Rescue Facebook page, officials said they did not know how long the outage would last.

"Residents should expect the outage to last an uknown amount of time," the post said. "Leesburg Electric is on (the) scene working on the issue and will continue to work into the night."

Because a majority of the city's traffic lights were affected by the outage, emergency personnel reminded residents that intersections with non-functioning signals should be treated as a four-way stop.

No other information on the incident was immediately released.
