ELMONT, N.Y. — The Islanders open their new home this weekend, and the ribbon was cut Monday on a new Long Island Rail Road stop nearby.

The Elmont Station is the railroad's first new stop in 50 years.

It's set to open for service on Saturday when the Islanders play their first game at UBS Arena.

"This is a great day, not only for the Islanders fans and our organization, but a wonderful day for New Yorkers and Long Islanders alike," said Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky. "It's been nearly half a century since the last train station was built. But this new station will provide an essential transportation option for hockey and music fans."

Riders will be only able to take eastbound trains to Elmont Station for now because the westbound platform is not finished.

Until that platform is complete, westbound riders can use the nearby Belmont Station.
