ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It was a great day for fishing as anglers cast their lines to help out boy scouts.

The 25th annual Casting for Characters fishing event has been going on all day and the first round of fish made it back to the Port of Rochester for weigh ins.

More than 170 fishermen and women were looking out for steelhead, salmon, brown trout and lake trout hoping to come back with the best and biggest fish to win some special awards while supporting the scouting programs.

The biggest one to come in was the 26-pound salmon from Hunter Nelson.

Participants of the event are entered into the derby Lake Ontario counties.

The proceeds go toward the scouting programs of the Seneca Waterways Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Last year, more than $70,000 was raised and they say they're expecting to hit that same mark again this year.
