You can visit the tropics without leaving Rochester. There’s always something in bloom at Lamberton Conservatory in Highland Park on Reservoir Avenue.

"It is hard to beat this. It’s a wonderful place to be in the winter. We encourage kids and families and parents to come visit. It’s just a nice place. You’ll always find something in bloom,” said Mark Quinn, superintendent of horticulture for the Monroe County Parks Dept.

The Lamberton Conservatory was built in 1911. There is a paved path through the five houses that make up the conservatory. There are tropical plants, desert plants, and exotic flowers. There are plenty of benches to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful greenery.

“People don’t want the humidity in the summer, but in the winter it sure feels nice in here. It is educational too," said Quinn. "We have a lot of plants that people have never seen. We have five separate shows in the seasonal area and we continue to change other things throughout the house. It is such a value and it’s such a great place to visit. It is only a couple bucks to get in and you can be a member for $10 and come every day of the year. People come to read and paint. It is a wonderful place to be on a cold day."

The Lamberton Conservatory on Reservoir Avenue is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
