Lake Ontario has overwhelmed the Rochester area's shoreline once again.

Residents along the Lake Ontario shoreline in Greece rushed to save their properties from rising waters on Tuesday as waves, wind and showers rolled in.

The area, along with the rest of the shoreline in Monroe County, are under a State of Emergency. Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says it allows officials and municipalities to shut down additional roads as needed.

The Greece Police Department is asking drivers and onlookers to avoid the flooded area.

In the meantime, several roads remain closed, including:
  • Edgemere Drive between Dewey Avenue and Island Cottage Road
  • East Manitou Road
  • Lowden Point
  • Benedict Beach
  • West Wautoma
  • Sandy Shore Drive
  • Sandy Harbor Drive
  • Newco Drive

Residents continue to call on the International Joint Commission (IJC) to make changes to lake levels that led to flooding two years ago and again now. Julia Riley watched her daughter's retirement home overrun by the surging lake on Tuesday, before her family was able to move into the home.

"All due to the brilliant decisions of the former IJC members. Who came up with the Plan 2014. They were more concerned about saving the birds and the fish and the frogs than the homeowners," Riley said.

Members of the IJC toured flooded areas in Western New York on Tuesday. The international body that regulates lake levels said its doing all it can to mitigate the issues.

In the meantime, the boat launch at the Port of Rochester Marina in Charlotte is closed. Officials say water is rising over the docks, creating a dangerous situation for launching.
