SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio's City Council unanimously approved the first affordable/workforce housing development on Thursday, part of the $20 million voter-approved 2017-2022 Neighborhood Improvements Bond Program.

  • Formerly Turtle Creek Country Club and Planeta Mexico
  • Will service families at 60 percent and below Area Median Income
  • Open as early as March 2021

The site will be located in the Medical Center. Previously the Turtle Creek Country Club and Planeta Mexico, the site will be transformed into a 235-unit affordable multi-family rental complex serving families at 60 percent and below of the Area Median Income.

Of the 235 units:

  • 115 will be 2 bedroom/2 bathroom units at or around $834 per month
  • 120 will be 3 bedroom/2 bathroom units at or around $965 per month

Franklin Development Properties, Ltd. is anticipated to complete the multi-family development within 27 months with the leasing office expected to open as early as March 2021.

“The project is a great accomplishment and another step toward meeting the recommendations of the Mayor’s Housing Policy Task Force to provide more inventory of affordable housing to San Antonio families,” Veronica Soto, director of Neighborhood and Housing Services Department, said.

Onsite amenities will include a pool, two playscape areas, community room, library, gym and business center along with resident services such as after school activities (STEM, swimming lessons, leadership and team building), health and wellness programs, a food pantry, resident's gardens, and financial literacy courses.
