TEXAS - Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is asking the Texas Attorney General to review San Antonio Police Chief William McManus' handling of a human smuggling case.

In a letter Wednesday, Patrick asked Attorney General Ken Paxton, to act swiftly in making sure SAPD was following the law.

The San Antonio Police Officers Association is calling for McManus to be placed on administrative leave. The association claims McManus violated Senate Bill 4 when he released 12 immigrants last month.

McManus said a Homeland Security Investigations Agent was present at SAPD headquarters and had access to the 12 people.  He also said at no time did SAPD restrict or prevent the federal agent from taking custody of them.
