PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A Pinellas County family is wishing for a cure this holiday season.

While many kids can't wait to find the latest toys and technology under their Christmas tree, 7-year-old Corey Dunlap has one very special request.

"For cancer to get out of my bones and get my bone marrow," Corey said.

Several months ago, Corey and his mom Samantha Harris, found out Corey had leukemia.

"I was like, why couldn't it be me? Why couldn't I have went through this," Samantha Harris said.

Corey immediately started chemotherapy and countless other treatments. The hospital became their second home. Samantha also has two other children and her husband is in the Army, about to leave for basic training.

"We're there for treatment, we're there for infusions, and we're also there for surgeries, so that's time away and I also have two other little kids and a husband. It's hard," Harris said.

Corey is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant but sadly, right now, there are zero matches on the donor registry.

Corey Dunlap, 7, found out a few months ago he has leukemia.

"There are millions and millions of combinations of different tissue typings that people could have, so it's that hard to find that perfect match," said Marc Silver, Senior Community Engagement Representative for Be The Match.

"Most likely you're going to match somebody of your ethnic background. Corey is multi-ethnic," he said.

The family is begging anyone who could help to sign up and donate.

As they prepare to spend their holidays back in the hospital, Samantha is praying for a miracle.

"I just really want God to truly bless us, and I'm waiting for that phone call to say he's in remission. That's what we really need right now, that's all I want," Harris said.

Until that phone call comes, Corey will keep fighting.

The family, along with "Be the Match" is hosting a drive for Corey at the Dunkin Donuts on Seminole and Ulmerton Road on December 15 from 10 am to 1 pm. They're hoping to get potential donors signed up and registered.

They're also hoping visitors will drop off ornaments for Corey to put on his Christmas tree at the hospital.

There is also a GoFundMe page for the family to help with payments.
