TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews responded to a huge house fire Monday evening in the Northdale area of Carrollwood.

  • Firefighters had to back off home due to explosions
  • HCSO: Numerous weapons, ammo and flame throwers found in the home

The fire became difficult to fight due to items inside the home, located at 16311 Norwood Drive. Crews reported loud bangs coming from the home, followed by a series of explosions.  

Witnesses said there was a fight, some kind of domestic dispute, at the home before the fire broke out. 

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, numerous weapons, ammo and flame throwers found in the home. Also, deputies said 53-year-old Patrick O'Brien, who lived at the home, was taken into custody after entering a neighboring home Monday night, pushing a woman and later threatening deputies with a knife.

As fire fighters arrived, the quickly had to back off because of live ammunition inside the home that was apparently exploding as it burned.

Officials arrived at 7:20 and had the fire under control by 8:13 p.m. 

An investigation is ongoing.
