SARASOTA, Fla. — It’s a bumper-to-bumper Thanksgiving Eve tradition for thousands of Bay area families to pack the parking lot at Yoder’s Amish Village.

Lines of customers stretched along both sides of the building on Wednesday afternoon waiting for their signature pies.

Manager Brian Emrich estimates his team turned out roughly 7,000 pies over the last two days. They worked late into the night on Tuesday, before opening the kitchens back up at 1 a.m. to finish baking.

"Tomorrow is more like a day of rest,” he said with a laugh.

For decades, the pies from Yoder’s have become a staple in many households across the area. On Wednesday, people from as far as Atlanta came to join the line for a freshly made pie.

Joshua Searles made the trip from St. Petersburg just to pick up pies for his family.

“That's it!” he said. “Come over the bridge, grab some pies, go back home."

While Yoder’s offers roughly a dozen types of baked pies and many more versions of cream pies, Emrich says that 2,500 of what they served this season was the signature pumpkin.
