A series of beach cleanups organized by TikTok influencer Caulin Donaldson and Keep Pinellas Beautiful have garnered big turnouts.

Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and Keep Pinellas Beautiful teamed up with Caulin after discovering the Redington Shores resident had 1.4 million followers for his work picking up trash on Pinellas County beaches.

Together, the group organized six beach cleanups for Earth Month. During the last cleanup, 85 people attended and the group collected 100 pounds of trash.

"I never once though that I could be doing this and turn this into an every day career," Donaldson said.

In late 2019, Donaldson began a series of TikTok videos that showed him picking up trash at the beach for hundreds of days straight. The visitor's bureau noticed his dedication and decided they needed him on board.

"He doesn't do it once, he hasn't done it twice, he does it almost every day and the fact that he lives here shows he has the passion for it here," said Steve Hayes, with Visit St. Pete Clearwater.

Donaldson has lived all over for the past few years and spent some time in LA. He says the beach has always called him home and he's happy to be back in the county he was born.

"What's crazy about this is anybody could have done this, anybody could have come out and picked up trash and made a couple videos about it. I don't think I reinvented the wheel or I'm doing anything crazy, I'm just the one who did it," he said.

The next cleanup with Donaldson and the team will be at Indian Rocks Beach on April 29 at 10 a.m.
