CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. -- Bottled water is still the only water source for dozens of households near the Cumberland-Bladen County line after high levels of the chemical GenX are still in their wells.

Those homes are near the Chemours Plant, and state regulators say the company has discharged GenX as part of its wastewater into the Cape Fear River.

Chemours has supplied homes affected with bottled water, but those same homeowners are upset.

"Well, if I won a lottery, I'd be gone tomorrow," said resident Michael Watters. "Because my house, I have no idea when they're going to run water."

GenX is an unregulated chemical and the impact on humans is unknown.

State regulators say Chemours might be fined or possibly have its licensed revoked.

Chemours couldn't be reached to comment.
