CARY, N.C. -- Two parents in Wake County are mourning the loss of their 6-year-old daughter after they say she died of the flu.

They say daughter, Emily Muth, was diagnosed with the flu at an Urgent Care last Tuesday, and on Friday she died.

Muth had not had a flu shot, but following the trip to urgent care her parents say her condition improved until Firday.

On Friday, her mother says she sat up abruptly in bed, laid back down and quit breathing. By the time an ambulance was able to get her to the hospital, she was dead.

Parents say at no point were they advised that their daughter should be taken to the hospital, even earlier Friday when paramedics were summoned to their home.

While they mourn, they hope their story may be able to save another child's life.

"How could that even happen," asks Muth's mother. "One day she's fine, you know, and then she's gone. It's horrible. I don't wish this on anybody."
